Makeup: The Basics

Makeup can make you feel confident and beautiful – even on your worst days. Makeup itself is a true art form, but it doesn’t have to be intimidating. Fortunately, we don’t need to be makeup artists to make our exterior selves reflect our inner beauty. Follow these easy steps and you’ll be ready for that big interview, or exciting date night in no time!

Keep it simple— Unless you’re doing a photoshoot, there is no reason to pile the makeup on. Of course there are some products you want to use on the daily, like foundation, concealer, blush, eyebrow products, eyeliner, and your favorite lipstick/gloss. Okay that seems like a lot, but I promise it’s not!

Make sure it lasts!— If you apply your makeup at 6 am before work and don’t get home til after 5 pm, you want makeup that is going to stay put all day! To make this happen it’s important to use primers– face primers and eyeshadow primers. Facial primers will ensure that your makeup stays put and looks fresh all day. Eyeshadow primers will prevent your shadow from creasing (which is usually from your natural oils building on your eyelid). If you’re a greaseball, like me, these are a MUST! A setting spray is another product to think about especially during the hot summer months. No one wants to look like their face is melting off! Think of it as a hairspray for your face– it keeps everything where it needs to be!

Bring out your best feature– Pick something you want to accentuate or highlight– Maybe your eyes, lips, or cheekbones? A simple smoky eye can make any eye color POP. A bright colored lip can make you stand out for all the right reasons- and a simple highlight of your cheekbone can showcase your bone structure.

Always remember to have fun with your makeup! Life is too short to not wear that bright red lipstick! Stay tuned for more tips and tricks!
